The Travel Clothes That Need To Be In Every Suitcase Before You Leave
One of the biggest struggles travellers have is figuring out what to pack. Throw in the challenge of going carry-on only and we’ve got even more to think about!
As with anything, the more we do it, the better we get. Packing becomes less a question of “want vs need” and more a question of “does the value this item provides warrant the space it takes up in my bag”.
Here’s my list of travel clothes I refuse to leave home without … I’d love to hear how it stacks up to your list in the comments at the end of this post!
Baubax Travel Jacket
Baubax is described as “The World’s Best Travel Jacket”, and with good reason!
It has 15 features, each designed to enhance your travel experience (click the image to view a bigger/readable version):
1. Neck pillow hidden in the detachable hood
2. Built-in eye mask in the detachable hood
3. Earphone holders lining the neck
4 & 5. Sunglasses pocket complete with microfiber cloth
6. Pen and stylus attached to the zipper
7. Drink pocket designed to keep your beverage warm or cold
8. Hand cover “gloves” attached to the sleeves
9. Hand-warming pockets
10-15. Packed with pockets for you passport, phone, tablet, portable charger and a blanket
I love this jacket! Not only is it perfect for travel, but it’s also great when you’re out shopping with your wife and need to hide a sweater you decided to buy her (she had no idea!).
Made with high-quality fabrics, in 4 modern fashionable designs, it’s easy to see why Baubax is the highest crowdfunded fashion item ever.
Cool-Jams Sleepwear
I started wearing Cool-Jams last year, and now I won’t go anywhere without them!
Cool-Jams offers bedding and sleepwear in lots of great styles, for men and women. All of their products are lightweight, moisture-wicking, and super comfortable. They’re tailor-made for people who have hot-flashes or night-sweats, but you don’t need either of those to get a ton of benefit.
Why do I love Cool-Jams so much?
1. They’re incredibly light and wrinkle-resistant so you can cram them into anytravel bag.
2. They don’t get all “bunched up” in the middle of the night
3. A quick rinse in the sink and they’ll be fresh and dry in no time with their quick-drying technology
4. They help regulate your body temperature
Cool-Jams are the perfect choice for those inconsistent hotel room bedding and temperature fluctuations, but they’re also amazing as a base-layer during the winter months. I recently wore mine when watching the World Junior Championships Outdoor Game and was just as comfortable outside as I was inside.
Grab a pair today, and you’ll never wear anything else … to bed anyway.
Kenneth Cole Bootie Slippers
I’m a big fan of wearing slippers, especially during the winter months. I rarely take them when I travel; however, because they’re often too heavy and clunky to earn a place in my luggage.
All that changed when I found these Bootie Slippers from Kenneth Cole. They’re breathable, flexible, and have an amazing memory-foam interior. Added benefit: their chic look and indoor/outdoor soles make them perfect for airports, flights, and hotel rooms.
These slippers are also surprisingly lightweight and crushable, making packing them a breeze.
UNIQLO BLOCKTECH WARM-LINED SLIM FIT PANTS
I’ve found that one of my biggest struggles is to find a decent pair of versatile pants that are warm, comfortable and stylish. Until I found Blocktech pants from UNIQLO.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I wore these pants to the World Junior Championships Outdoor Game. Not only are they super warm, but they’re stylish enough that I would have felt comfortable going just about anywhere for dinner after the game. These fleece, velvet-lined pants are slim-fitting so you won’t feel “sloppy”.
UNIQLO Blocktech pants are the perfect blend of winter ski-pants (without the plastic shell) with fashionable, slim-fit pants (without being uncomfortable).
Black Sneakers
For a long time I resisted buying black sneakers.
Why? My vision of wearing black sneakers was the generic variety worn by waitresses and grocery store staff because they were “comfortable”. I can appreciate the purpose of those choices, but none of those images was a fashionable one.
A few years ago I found a soccer-style black sneaker that fit my style. My wife immediately showed me how they could easily be dressed up or down, adding to their versatility. This was really important to us because we always want to have at least 1 evening or 1 dinner that’s more upscale, but who wants to pack an entire extra pair of shoes just for that occasion?
Since that day, I now have a few styles of black sneakers that are interchangeable. I love having the versatility of being able to go anywhere, or attend any event that we discover on our travels.

Yes Jelena! You’d love having that Baubax jacket during your travels 🙂
I like the jacket. It is all i need for a trip. Nicely written article.
Many thanks Arindam! Definitely look into picking up a Baubax jacket .. .i absolutely LOVE mine
I love been organize before I go traveling, having the right gear for your travel is very important. Love the jacket
Organization really does help, and the Baubax jacket is amazing
I like the Cool-Jams Sleepwear and went to check it out. Wow… it’s just too much for my pocket.
Cool-Jams do come with a bit of a pricetag, but they’re definitely worth it in spades!!
Great list.. I always prefer to travel with sneakers .. so comfortable for travel hikes. I like the way you have described each product. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Krupa! I don’t go on any trips without at least 2 pairs of sneakers 🙂
Alright so it’s official I need the travel jacket for my birthday. This is the do it all type of thing that I love. They had me at the built in neck pillow. Thanks for sharing.
You won’t regret your Baubax jacket Kellyn, and that neck pillow is awesome! Report back when you get it 🙂
Great list. And I am happy that most of these are in my travel bag. In fact, I have a small pouch at home with an eye mask, an ear plug, one pack of wet wipe and one of dry wipe, one mini hand sanitizer and several other necessary stuff. So, it’s really convenient to grab this pouch and put it in my travel bag without any worry of missing any of these essentials.
Love that idea Neha! I have a similar pouch, and it makes packing so much easier
Those Cool-Jams sound great for everyday too. My husband would love the jacket. Great list of items, thank you!
You’ve picked 2 of my faves from this list Sherrie! Both awesome products.
Great tips! I very often forget to bring my sleepwear when I travel which is so annoying. I should learn how to write a list of thing I need to bring before I pack. I do usually travel with my black Skechers shoes, so I’m with you on that one! 🙂
Checklists are great Paula 🙂 Love bringing my black sneakers everywhere!
We would love to add dry-fit clothes in this list. They are extremely comfortable and sleek. They wick away rather than absorb sweat, which makes you feel dryer when you’re doing a hike or walking tour around the city.
Awesome recommendation! Love bringing dry-fit clothes as they’re so versatile
Can never leave my home without sneakers and a pair of sandals. From where I come, it always hot so a jacket mostly misses getting in to my backpack. But like you have mentioned, I some times carry my hoodie to keep myself warm – mostly in the airports.
You’re right that a jacket it always required … but Baubax also come in sweater form 😉
Great post! My worst habit when traveling is forgetting sleepwear and having to either borrow someone else’s or sleep in clothes meant to go out in. Having some travel sleepwear would be a great idea, haha.
I used to always forget my sleepwear too, but i love my Cool-Jams!
I was sending this item to my mother in law and put the wrong house number on my address. I contacted Cool-jams and they sent out a new order, without waiting for the first one to come back, plus they did not charge me an additional shipping charge, even though it was my fault.
That’s amazing! Yes, they really have great customer service, and you so much for sharing your experience.

Love the jacket. Thanks for posting.
It’s seriously an amazing jacket! I wear it all the time, even at home when i’m just dreaming of travel.
That’s amazing! I recently came across shopping store online, Jeans Unlimited, where I found quite a wide variety of jeans and shirts and that of high quality. I would recommend it to anyone looking for them in Ontario.
Thanks for the great tip Mike! We’ll definitely check them out.
